Maharshi Salihotriya

Contribution of Ancient India to Modern Science

India has been contributing to the fields of science and technology since ancient times. Even today, what we term as ‘traditional knowledge’ is actually based on scientific reasoning.

Veterinary Science: There is evidence of the existence of veterinary hospitals and dis- pensaries under the Mauryan Empire.

Veterinarians were called Salihotriya, after the famous horse medicine authority Salihotra, in ancient times. He is considered as the founder of veterinary sciences in Indian tradition.

His work, the Shalihotra Samhita, is an early Indian treatise on veterinary medicine (hippiatrics), likely composed in the 3rd century BCE.

Maharshi Shalihotra is considered the Father of Indian Veterinary Science. He was a veterinarian and writer who lived in the 3rd century BCE and is best known for his work, the Shalihotra Samhita, which is an early Indian treatise on veterinary medicine. This treatise covers various aspects of animal care, including horse and elephant anatomy, physiology, surgery, and diseases, along with their curative and preventive measures. Shalihotra's work has had a significant impact on the development of veterinary science in India.

Professor C.N.R. Rao

Professor C.N.R. Rao is widely regarded as the "Father of Indian Nanotechnology" due to his pioneering work in the field of nanotechnology and materials science. With a career spanning over five decades, Rao has made significant contributions to the development of nanomaterials, nanostructures, and their applications. His research has led to a deeper understanding of the properties and behavior of materials at the nanoscale, paving the way for advancements in fields such as energy, electronics, and healthcare. Rao's work has been recognized globally, and he has received numerous awards and honors, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award .

Dr. Chinta Mani Singh Dr. Chinta Mani Singh, “God Father or Doyen of Indian Veterinary Profession” breathed last, 15 years ago on 27th July 2005 at Sussex, UK. His memoirs are still fresh and live in heart of most of the senior veterinarians of this country, who listened, knew and worked with him. There is a strong need that young veterinarians of this country should know about his life, contributions and achievements for the advancement of the veterinary profession. Dr. C.M. Singh Endowment Trust, Bareilly (cmset.org) works with this mission and welfare of for livestock man and veterinarians. Here is a very brief story

Louis Pasteur

Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) is considered the founder of Microbiology and Immunology. He made significant contributions to the fields of vaccination, germ theory, and disease prevention, laying the foundation for modern microbiology and immunology. Renowned for the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation, and pasteurization. He established the germ theory of disease, developed vaccines for diseases like anthrax and rabies, and created the pasteurization process to kill harmful microbes in beverages and other products.
